Autism, gender and the intersection with eating disorders
Adult Webinar Series: 16 years +

It is estimated that approximately 1 in 70 people in Australia are on the autism spectrum, and current research has identified a higher prevalence of mental health concerns, including eating disorders, in the autistic population compared to the general population. The neurological differences that constitute autism, including gender differences and the high masking phenotype, can significantly influence the presentation of autistic individuals with mental health concerns, such as eating disorders. Therefore, it is important that clinicians and support teams are aware of these differences in presentation and tailor supports to meet participants’ individual needs.
